20 Negative Calorie Foods To Help You Lose More Weight…
Negative calorie foods are an easy way to lose more body fat.
Every Instagram model knows about them.
The idea revolves around the thermic effect of certain foods.
The body burns more calories trying to break these foods down, than the amount of calories contained in the food itself, therefore getting you into a calorie deficit – even though you’re eating!
Here’s 20 negative calorie foods that will help you burn more fat:
- Don’t be f**king silly.
Do Negative Calorie Foods Exist?
I apologize if I got your hopes up, but negative calorie foods are complete and utter bulls**t.
It’s the latest in a long line of social media fads which defy basic logic.
And today I’m going to show you why.
As mentioned above, the idea of a so-called “negative calorie food” is based around the thermic effect of food; i.e. how many calories it takes our body to break down a food and use it for fuel.
If a food only contains 5 calories, but we burn 15 calories digesting it, essentially we could eat our way into a calorie deficit, right?
In an experiment that would make Doc from Back To The Future proud, our next step would be to create a rift in the space/time continuum and suck our belly fat straight into the vortex.
I shouldn’t joke, because there’s likely a c**kwaffle on Instagram who claims they can do that, too.
Foods which are often thrown into this category include celery, berries, broccoli, apples, watermelon, grapefruit, and lettuce.
There are two reasons this new fad is silly.
I’ll explain them below.
1. You Can’t Eat As Much Food As You Want
Check out this crazy clickbait headline:
This is problem number one with “negative calorie foods”… we immediately think we can binge on them without consequences.
I’ll tell you right now; don’t fall for it.
You can gain a bunch of weight eating fruit, veg, chocolate, pizza, protein shakes, it doesn’t matter. What matters are your calorie requirements.
You know how many calories are in an apple? 116.
With 31 grams of carbohydrates.
Negative calorie food my a**.
So when an Instafit “trainer” says you can eat as many as you want, because they are on the list of so-called “negative calorie foods”, they are speaking complete nonsense, straight out of their filtered behind.
If you smashed 10 apples in a day there’s 1160 calories.
Keep munching that negative calorie food, and you will positively gain weight.
In a similar move, many diet plans refer to certain items as “free foods”.
The idea is that these foods can do so little damage, you can fill your plate and not worry about going over your calories for the day.
Slimming World are probably the most popular example of this, although they often put their foot in it with the items they deem “free”…
2. There’s No Such Thing As A Negative Calorie Food
The first part was about common sense. But that doesn’t get you very far on social media.
So the second part is about cold, hard, science.
There’s no such thing as foods that burn more calories than they contain.
The thermogenic effect of food cannot be more than 100%, which means if something contains 10 calories, there’s no way it’ll take 15 or 20 calories to break down.
It’s not how we work.
So that comprehensive list of 20 negative calorie foods I gave you earlier isn’t just a joke, it’s dead accurate. There are no negative calorie foods.
According to USDA, the thermic effect of food maxes out at just 10%.
Meaning if we ate something containing 10 calories, it would only ever take 1 calorie to digest.
If someone has previously enjoyed success while eating these types of food, the cause is that they wound up creating a calorie deficit, because they were snacking on cucumbers instead of Mars Bars.
Negative calorie dumps?
Make yourself constipated, then you’ll be straining so hard on the loo you’d actually burn more calories than was in the food which made you go in the first place…
Feels great to have created my own brand new fad diet!
Now I just need a name for it (“Fit As S**t”, maybe?), and some yoga pants wearing “fitfluencers” to promote it…
Anyway, you get it.
So the next time someone tries to tell you with their list of so-called negative calorie foods, or their 30 day detox BS, you know what to do…
